"Wahhabi (Arabic: Al-Wahhābīyya الوهابية) or Wahhabism is a sect attributed to Muhammad ibn Abd-al-Wahhab, an 18th century scholar from what is today known as Saudi Arabia, who advocated to bring Islam back to its roots by removing from Islam what he considered innovations in Islam (Bidah). Abdul Wahab is known by most Sunni Muslims as Najdi, this referrs to him being from Najd. Shi'a Islam is divided into three branches. The largest are the Twelver (اثنا عشرية iṯnāʿašariyya), named after their adherence to the Twelve Imams. They form a majority of the population in Iran, Azerbaijan, Bahrain and Iraq. Additionally they are a significant minority in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Lebanon, India, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. The term Shi'a often refers to Twelver Shi'a only. Other smaller branches include the Ismaili and Zaidi, who dispute the Twelver lineage of Imams and beliefs.

Mormon is a term used to describe the adherents, practitioners, followers or constituents of certain denominations within the Latter Day Saint movement. The term most often refers to a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), which is commonly called the Mormon Church. The LDS Church claims that "Mormon" should properly be applied only to its members, to avoid possible confusion with Mormon fundamentalist groups which practice plural marriage. However, the term is nevertheless used to refer to many other sects that recognize Brigham Young as a prophet, including Mormon fundamentalists.

Falun Gong (alternatively Falun Dafa) is a system of beliefs and practices founded in China by Li Hongzhi in 1992. The practice emerged at the end of China's "qigong boom" as a form of qigong practice. Falun Gong differs from competing qigong schools through its absence of daily rituals of worship, its self-consciousness about outside critics, its greater emphasis on morality and the purported theological nature of its teachings. There is on-going debate about Falun Gong's classification as a religion, or new religious movement (NRM), and "cult", a term used by the Chinese government to describe the movement. Its teachings are influenced by both Taoism and Buddhism.

The Gospel of Barnabas is a substantial book depicting the life of Jesus; and claiming to be by Jesus's disciple Barnabas, who in this work is one of the twelve apostles. It is recorded in two manuscripts, both dated to the late sixteenth century and written respectively in Italian and in Spanish; although the Spanish manuscript is now lost, its text surviving in an eighteenth-century transcript. It is about the same length as the four canonical gospels put together (the Italian manuscript has 222 chapters); with the bulk being devoted to an account of Jesus' ministry, much of it harmonised from accounts also found in the canonical gospels. In some key respects, it conforms to the Islamic interpretation of Christian origins, but it clearly contradicts the New Testament teachings in Christianity.

There has been a good deal of controversy in August-September 2009 as Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno is close to being the first woman caned in Malaysia under sharia law. She is a Muslim of Malaysian origin now resident in Singapore, who has worked as a hospital nurse and a part-time model. In 2007 she was arrested drinking beer in a hotel bar, and in 2009 she was sentenced by a religious court to six strokes of the cane and a fine. Kartika indicated that she accepted her sentence, as she now respects the law. She even wanted the caning to be carried out in public. This led to an outcry, a number of Malaysian women's organisations launched a campaign against the sentence, there was a Facebook fan group in her defence, and government ministers advised Kartika to appeal.
